Available Rebates and Support

Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) - Medicare

Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment by registered psychologists under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. This scheme provides considerable assistance to people living with mental health problems, allowing them greater access to psychologists and providing more affordable mental healthcare.

You don’t need a Mental Health Care Plan or GP referral to see a psychologist. However, you need a mental health care plan to claim Medicare rebates.

Private Health Fund Rebates

If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible to claim rebates for sessions with a psychologist.

Private health typically covers both in-person and online therapy sessions. These include individual therapy sessions, couples counselling and family therapy.

The level of cover and applicable waiting periods vary between insurance companies and depend on your extras cover policy.

NDIS Funding

We can assist children or adults on a self-managed plan. NDIS funding may be utilised for ADHD services (delivered to individuals or groups) by individuals with self-managed funding,

Eating Disorder Plan

People experiencing an eating disorder can access treatment through either an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDP), Mental Health Care Plan, and/or Chronic Disease Management Plan.

Chronic Disease Management Plan

A Chronic Disease Management Plan (formerly called an Enhanced Care Plan) may also be obtained from your GP and enable Medicare rebates for services delivered to individuals, however the number of rebates and the amount per rebate accessible under this plan is substantially less than for a Mental Health Care Plan. Further information about Medicare rebates and the Medicare Safety Net can be found here.
