Child Therapy

Child Therapy

The course of therapy varies from child to child, family to family. Throughout the therapeutic process, children, teens, and parents are empowered with psychoeducation, strategies, and a plan to continue building on progress.

Individual child sessions involve a combination of media, worksheets, and interactive activities, providing a fun and comfortable way for children to express themselves. Older children and teens are often more comfortable discussing how they feel and what they think. We will guide your child in learning to:

    1. Identify problem areas and concerns
    2. Develop strategies to cope with and change what is uncomfortable or undesirable
    3. Build emotional resilience and strategies.

Parents are required to participate in sessions for children under 7 years of age.

At Positive Families, we view your child or teen as an individual with their own unique strengths and challenges. We utilise the most appropriate evidence-based strategies to ensure your child learns strategies to overcome challenges and thrive.

Before commencing sessions with your child or teen, we schedule an initial parent/caregiver session.  The aim of the initial consultation is to discuss your child’s strengths and difficulties, history, and challenges. The session enables parents to share their concerns and discuss their goals for therapy.
