Fees & Rebates
The cost of a consultation varies according to the type of service, the number of people attending (individual, couple, family) and the duration of the session.
The current Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended fee for psychological services is $280.00 per hour. However, we offer our fees at a reduced rate. Please note you do not need a referral from your GP to attend appointments.

Individual Therapy (50 minutes)
$250 Initial Intake | $225 Subsequent sessions
Out of pocket $155.35 for initial intake and $125.35 for subsequent sessions with a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). Medicare rebate $89.65)

Initial Parent Session
$250 Initial Intake | 50 minutes
Parents attend an initial session before the child or teen sessions.

Parent-only sessions are not eligible for Medicare rebates.
Child or Teen Sessions
$225 Subsequent sessions | 50 minutes

Separated parents: For children, 13 years and under, agreement from the other parent is required.
Couples Counselling

After Hours Surcharge
There is an after hours surcharge of $25.00 for all appointments booked from 5.00pm weekdays and for all weekend appointments. The surcharge is applied in addition to the standard session fees.
New Client Booking Deposit
We require a $50.00 non-refundable booking deposit to secure your initial appointment. This will be deducted from the first session fee. If you cancel your appointment for whatever reason, the deposit is forfeited. There are no refunds.
Medicare Rebates
We are registered Medicare Providers and rebates are available for eligible clients. A Medicare rebate of $92.90 is available per session with a Psychologist. Eligible clients will be able to access
- 10 individual sessions with a psychologist per calendar year plus
- 10 group therapy sessions with a psychologist per calendar year.
To determine if you are eligible for the Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) you will need to make an appointment with your doctor, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. We suggest booking a longer consultation with your doctor so there is sufficient time to develop the care plan. Ensure that the referral is issued to Positive Families.
A copy of the MHTP must be provided before your initial appointment. To claim the Medicare rebate, your MHTP must be dated prior to attending an appointment.
After 6 sessions with your Psychologist, you will then need to visit your doctor for a review to ensure you can access the additional sessions.

Private Health Fund Rebates
Private health fund rebates are available via our Hicaps facility. In order to determine your rebate, please contact your health fund directly.
Payment of Fees
Fees are payable in full on the day of your consultation. We have EFTPOS faciitites for your convenience. Medicare rebates can be processed through our HICAPS facility.
Cancellation Policy
Clients are required to provide 2 x business day’s notice (not including the day of the appointment) to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This ensures we have enough time to offer your appointment to other clients. If the required notice is not provided, a cancellation fee is payable. Medicare and private health fund rebates do not apply for late cancellation or non-attendance fees.
